BREAKING: Gathering at Oknha Sok Kong’s Residence Claims Three Lives, Six Injured Ahead of Chinese New Year

Phnom Penh, January 23, 2025 — A gathering  at Oknha Sok Kong’s residence on Preah Norodom Street in Phsar Thmey 3, Daun Penh District, resulted in three deaths and six injuries this morning, just days before the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Hundreds of people gathered at Sok Kong’s residence to receive traditional Chinese angpao (red envelope). As the crowd increased, many attendees began to feel dizzy and faint. Initial reports indicate that three individuals died while being transported to the hospital, and six others were taken by ambulance for treatment.

Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng and local authorities arrived at the scene promptly to assist with the transport of the injured and to manage traffic, facilitating the dispersal of the crowd.
